Jessica Simpson Thinks Melrose Place Is "Crap"

Jessica Simpson finally got around to tweeting about Melrose Place firing her sister, Ashlee, and she is none too happy with the writing staff. In fact, Jess thinks the show is worse than any of her straight-to-DVD movies like Major Movie Star and Blonde Ambition.
Last night she tweeted: "CW catching up on MP.who writes this crap?i have had bad scripts to work with,but this?thank God my sister is amazing and got you some press...Watch til Jan.. :)"
Wow. So Jessica believes that Melrose Place only got press because of Ashlee's amazing acting? That's not entirely accurate. While it's true that Ashlee was the most buzzed-about castmember and did most of the press leading up to the soap's premiere, it's the "amazing" part we're not quite buying. That said, we do think it's nice Jess is being a supportive big sister.

Heather Locklear is nothing like the conniving evil be-yotch she played plays on Melrose Place.
So says Michael Rady, who costars on the revived prime-time soap as aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller.
"It's totally surreal," Rady told me at last night's Environmental Media Awards in Hollywood about his scenes with Locklear. "I was expecting her to kind of be like Amanda Woodward, but she's just sweet and unassuming and very professional."
And what about her signature power suits?

While Colin Egglesfield's dismissal from Melrose Place definitely came as a shock to his costars, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's may not have been as surprising.
Stephanie Jacobsen, who plays med student/escort Lauren Yung on the revived prime time soap, says, "We'll miss them," but Simpson's future was always an unknown.
"I don't know whether Ashlee's involvement with the show was going to continue beyond the murder-mystery storyline she's been involved in," Jacobsen told me at last night's Vanity Fair/Guess? event for Invisible Children.
Egglesfield, however, is a completely different scenario…

The night Ashlee Simpson-Wentz got booted off Melrose Place, she was busy playing her most important role: mommy!
"She's home with Bronx," Pete Wentz explained of Ashlee's absence from last night's Guess? and Vanity Fair party for the Invisible Children charity.
"He has a 101-degree fever. We're just glad it's not swine flu!" he continued.
The freshly shorn rocker was a cohost at the charity fête along with Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson—which sort of explains why he wasn't home tucking Bronx into bed or consoling his suddenly unemployed wife. Only that wasn't the only party he hit last night...

UPDATE: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz just released a statement to E! News about her departure from Melrose Place, saying, "Having the chance to play Violet on Melrose Place has been a thrill. Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to the CW and the entire cast and crew of Melrose Place for allowing me this opportunity!"

Spoiler alert: The producers of Melrose Place are spoiling you.
While such surprising cast changes are usually held under iron-clad lock and key, the CW has confirmed that Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield will be let go from the cast of Melrose Place in January. In their place, we'll get some new characters.
So why are Ashlee (Violet) and Colin (Auggie) getting the boot?

Jessica Simpson talked about having babies this weekend. Well, her sister, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, having babies, that is.
"I want her to have another baby," Jessica said at Ash's 25th birthday celebration on Saturday at the Wet Republic pool in Las Vegas. "I want another nephew or a niece."
The Melrose Place star, along with her big sister, jetted into Sin City on Saturday morning with family and friends, including hubby Pete Wentz and parents Tina and Joe.
Holding court in a private bungalow, Ash was surprised with a three-tiered cake topped with cupcakes.
Not sure if this has anything to do with the not-dating-anyone Jessica, but...

Jessica Simpson may be single, but she's not searching for Mr. Right this time.
Instead, she's letting him find her.
"I think that in the right time, somebody will find me," she told E! News Friday at Operation Smile's gala, where her entire family was being honored. "I'm not seeking it out right now. I'm waiting...but not miserably!"
Sounds like she's in a good place since her birthday breakup with Tony Romo.
Of course, in typical Jessica fashion, she gave a little TMI during her speech onstage...

Ash and Pete left baby Bronx home for the night when they hit Ron Herman at Fred Segal to hang with fans and score some J Brand jeans.

Thomas Calabro, who's reprising his role as Melrose Place's womanizing Dr. Michael Mancini, teases that he may swap spit with Pete Wentz's wifey on the revamped series, premiering tonight on the CW.
Simpson-Wentz, 24, plays small-town gal Violet Foster on M.P.
"It obviously wouldn't be Michael Mancini without a hookup, and he obviously has to hook up outside of his marriage…[so] it's always a possibility," Calabro, 50, told us about a possible Michael-Violet tryst.
His character may still be up to his old tricks, but Calabro says there's also a lot that has changed about Dr. Mancini since the original show last aired 10 years ago…
Simpson Mama Talks Jessica, Tony and Bronx (but Not Flying Water Bottles)
Jessica Simpson probably didn't feel like getting pelted with an open water bottle two nights in a row, so she opted for a quiet night in Thursday.
The rest of the Simps, meanwhile, weren't quite so camera-shy, opting instead to get their photo op on by turning up to the star-studded opening of a Gap pop-up store on Robertson Boulevard.
But while Jessica didn't attend the soiree, mother Tina Simpson was more than willing to dish on how her daughter is dealing with the single life.
"Jessica is just a really strong girl," Mama Simpson said. "She has her stuff together, she really does. She's very solid, so I'm very proud of her."
Apparently included in that pride is Tony Romo, despite his less than chivalrous birthday-eve dumping.
"We like all of our exes," she said.
Not to nitpick, Tina, but we're pretty sure you mean Jessica's exes. Unless Papa Joe's been passing around the Kool-Aid?
