Norton, Morissette, Masekela, Edwards and More Race to NYC Marathon Finish Line

Edward Norton took home the gold medal at the New York City Marathon today—in the actors, musicians and performers category, that is.

Norton finished the 26-mile race in an astonishing 3 hours, 48 minutes and 1 second. The 40-year-old Fight Clubber referred to his first experience as "phenomenal," participating on behalf of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, a Kenya-based charitable organization.

(Also phenomenal: overall winner Meb Keflezighi, who ran the course in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 15 seconds.)

Other celeb-marathoners included ER's Anthony Edwards, who crossed the finish line shortly after Norton, and singer Alanis Morissette, who finished just under four-and-a-half hours.

E!'s own Daily 10 host Sal Masekela ran the race as well, though he fell a bit short of his goal of beating Sean "Diddy" Combs' 2003 time. After the race was through, Sal tweeted the news: "Well Tweeps, I let you down. Didn't beat @iamdiddy. Hit a wall from hell at 18. Finished around 5 hrs. Hardest thing I've ever done."

Diddy was still generously impressed, tweeting, "You are a great man! I congratulate you in completing the nyc marathon and would like to double my donation! Great job!!!"

The Strokes bass player Nikolai Fraiture and The Biggest Loser record-breaker Tara Costa both pounded the New York pavement as well, finishing just 26 seconds apart at the 4-hour, 23-minute mark.

Rumored participants Teri Hatcher and daredevil David Blaine were absent from the festivities; earlier this week, Hatcher's rep confirmed she was sick with laryngitis.

In the meantime, Norton's next run will be on Modern Family, when the star stops by a November episode as a one-hit-wonder, has-been musician.

Katharine McPhee: I Wouldn't Be Surprised If Simon Ditched American Idol, Too

Katharine McPhee wasn't exactly shocked to learn that Paula Abdul was leaving American Idol.

"It doesn't surprise me, because it wouldn't surprise me if Simon Cowell was leaving the show," McPhee told me at last night's benefit concert for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and Feeding America.

"They've all been on the show for so many years…Do what you've got to do," she said. "People try to figure out the real stories and I'm like, 'Who cares? She wants to go.' "

In fact, McPhee thinks it's time for the show to shake things up a bit with someone like Ellen DeGeneres...

Rise 'n' Shine: Reese & Jake's Turn for Ring Rumors

Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal Flynet

•  According to Star, Reese Witherspoon arrived at a photo shoot wearing an engagement ring from boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal, but took it off shortly after she got there. Funny how she hasn't worn said sparkler anywhere else.

•  Justin Timberlake may be doing tequila. He'd probably do Pee-wee Herman's dance pretty well, too.

•  This sounds a lot like a country song. Given that it involves LeAnn Rimes, we shouldn't be surprised.

Alanis Entangles U.S. in a Tour

Rather unironically, Alanis Morissette is headed back on the road.

The Canadian songstress kicks off a 38-city theater tour Sept. 18 in support of her latest album, the nicely conflicted-sounding Flavors of Entanglement.

After spending the rest of the summer entertaining European crowds, Morissette and her angst will touch down first at the Charlottesville Pavilion in Virginia. She'll strum her way across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping things up in Oakland, Calif., on Nov. 17.

Tickets for the North American leg of her tour go on sale July 25. The full itinerary is on Morissette's website.

Called a "career highlight" by some critics, Flavors of Entanglement debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 last month and has sold about 130,000 copies.

A postbreakup Morissette said in May that the record "chronicles the rock bottom finally being hit."
