In case you didn't know or just have more friends and sunlight in your life than we do, today is Star Wars Day (May the 4th Be With You!). We thought we should do something to celebrate but, since it's also Saturday, we're not going to expend too much effort.
With that in mind, true to the franchise's episodic form, we've assembled two separate collections of essential Internet Star Wars videos. We'll go ahead and call this round the Prequels but, to be clear, it's because these videos have enjoyed long careers as Youtube mainstays and not because they're irredeemably awful.
A short time ago, in a suburb far from far away, an adorable 3-year-old girl gave us the bullet points of Star Wars in one priceless summing-up.
Even longer ago, one hapless teenager in a garage inadvertently created one of the first truly viral videos. How do we know it was truly viral? Because someone else re-mastered the original and, unlike George Lucas, succeeded in making it even better.
Finally there is the grand-daddy of Star Wars viral vids; a fan-made masterpiece that still measures up, taking a COPS-style approach to the deserts of Tatooine. If you've somehow never encountered TROOPS during your years of Internet spelunking, it's likely you've never heard the term 'dial-up connection' either.
These of course are just a slim cross-section of the many Star Wars related classics to grace the Interwebs. If you have any favorites that we missed, please feel free to contribute in the comments section below. This is, after all, a day for full-fledged nerding out.
