9 Ways to Boost Your Creativity

Being creative isn't always as easy as it sounds, especially when you have to do it for a living. Diane von Furstenberg is an iconic fashion designer who runs a worldwide company and constantly has to find new ways to stay ahead of the game by coming up with fresh ideas for fashion as well as for marketing her brand. But the House of DVF star has proved over the years that she has what it takes to remain on top and be successful in the fashion world, and we know that it's due to various reasons – among them her extensive traveling, her love of reading, and much more.

If you're feeling a little low in the ideas and innovation department these days, here are 9 ways to boost your creativity. You just might find yourself on the verge of discovering the next big thing!

1. Traveling

What better way to get inspiration than by visiting a new place? Surrounding yourself with foreign and interesting new sights, sounds, and experiences is just the ticket to unlocking new possibilities…and seeing how different other places around the world are.

2. Music

They say that playing classical music for unborn babies will help their IQs when they come into this world, so why can't listening to music as an adult continue to bring on the same effect? But don't reach for that dub-step CD just yet – pick up some Mozart or another classical artist. You'll find the experience to be incredibly soothing.

3. Trying new things

We have a tendency to get stuck in the same boring old routine, so it's no wonder we find ourselves getting bored! Find a way to switch things up so that you'll acquire new experiences along the way. Whether it's signing up for a cooking class, trying out a new sport, or simply driving a different route to work everyday – doing these little things will add some spice to your life.

4.  Reading

In addition to being a fashion designer, Diane is also a published author and an avid reader. Reading is a great form of mental escape…plus you might learn a thing or two.

5. Socialize

If you want to get the most out of the world, you have to go out and be a part of the world.  Get together with friends, go out and have fun, meet new people. All of these experiences together will help create more depth and fun in your daily life, not to mention that they will inspire you.

6. Relax

In this fast-paced world, we all need to take some time for ourselves to unwind and relax. Meditate, do yoga, escape for an afternoon and don't tell anyone where you are. When you're not stressed and thinking too hard about everything, that is often when the best ideas come.

7. Challenge yourself

By challenging your mind, you're also opening up your mind to new ways, ideas, and methods. By constantly developing yourself and engaging in activities that push you out of your comfort zone, you'll experience major personal growth. Play Sudoku, give that Rubiks Cube another shot, or engage in a debate with a friend about an interesting subject.

8. Daydream

It's okay to zone out every now and then. Our brains need the rest, plus you get to escape into your own fantasyland and do whatever you want. Consider it a mental vacation.

9. Keep a Journal

Do you ever come across a quote that inspires you, only to forget it later? Or do you ever wish you'd written something down so you could look it up or remember it? That's why it's wise to keep a journal or even a small notepad with you. By taking notes in life, whether it's something funny that someone said, song lyrics that resonated with you, or even an interesting incident that you experienced – writing all of these things down will give you something to reflect on later. And who know? You might just turn it into a song, a novel, a poem…or something even bigger.
