Are they casting for the Glee-capades? Lea Michele's a stunner (she's got smoky eyes to die for!), but a beaded mesh torso always screams figure skater. Of course, if she were lacing up we'd give this icy grey Marchesa gown a 10 because it's show-stopping. But was it the right choice for the Golden Globes? Your votes and comments will tell…let the backlash begin!
Leave it to style star Emma Stone to go high-fashion but still manage to be glamorous and red carpet-appropriate in this deep plum Lanvin tulle gown with raspberry side panels and matching strappy sandals. The embellished belt and shimmery shoulders totes keep it interesting without being over-the-top, all capped off with an elegant updo and dramatic eyes. Sigh...this babe can do no wrong!
Make no mistake, Angelina Jolie is back to rule the Golden Globes red carpet. The actress looks positively regal in her formfitting white Atelier Versace gown with red folded neckline, matching clutch, lipstick and simple bun—but regal in a evil queen kind of way with that chilly pose, no? But we can't deny that Angie is incredibly striking in her couture, even if staring at her too long means you might turn to stone.
Sometimes it's nice to not be nominated and just show up as a presenter, right? No stress! Case in point: Just look how much fun Reese Witherspoon is having out there. The actress is usually more formal and elegant at the awards shows, but Reese looks relaxed, sexy and like she's having the time of her life in her va-va-voom Zac Posen fitted sweetheart gown with tousled waves, blinging jewels and, the best acccessory of all, her adorable grin, natch!
Zooey Deschanel told Ryan Seacrest this was a one-of-a-kind Prada dress. And really, who else could pull off this Lite Brite-style gown but the quirky New Girl star? The beaded, two-tone torso and draped skirt are so grownup for her. If only she had let the flattering frock (and that tuxedo mani) shine instead of letting her campy ‘do and sideburns try to hog the spotlight. Someone needs to whip that poofy hair into a well-behaved up-sweep on the double!
Sarah Michelle Gellar may get a little flack for being different tonight. But there are at least two fans for the Ringer star and her unique Monique Lhuillier gown—that would be us and her 2-year-old daughter, Charlotte, who helped her pick the dress out. In fact, the blue watercolor print looks a little like a toddler watercolor painting, but it's such a mesmerizing effect, along with the elegant asymmetrical draping, that this definitely gets a gold star in our books.
Um, really, Michelle Williams? The actress was nominated for her role as screen goddess Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn, so you'd think she would bring some of that vampish hotness to the red carpet. But, nope, Michelle went all matronly in this three-quarter-sleeve blue velvet Jason Wu gown with a matching headband that's just meh. Meesh, you are too young and pretty for this dowdy look—save it for your golden years!
Look who's blending a little bit of rock ‘n' roll with a whole lot of glamour! Nicole Kidman went with a studded, V-strap Versace halter for her walk down the red carpet tonight—pairing the dress with gorgeous, loose locks and matching sandals, clutch and subtle jewels. It seems a little more risqué than Nic's been wearing lately, but the gamble pays off beautifully!
Rooney Mara stayed true to herself tonight, sweeping the red carpet in a stunning Nina Ricci gown with avant-garde cutouts. And despite the breeze, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star even went so far as to describe this dress as "very comfortable and sort of simple." If only she'd had a little more fun with her hair for this big night. Granted, there's not much length to play with, but of all the experimenting she's done lately, this slicked-over style is probably the most drab. Maybe Zooey Deschanel could lend her an extension or two?
Dianna Agron teased Twitter fans with a peek at her Golden Globes gown. But it took this full-length pose to truly appreciate the detail that has gone into this Giles Deacon dress with laser-cut swans. "I love it," she gushed to Ryan Seacrest. Sign us up. Between the elaborate cutouts, matching lipstick and upswept hair, this look's hitting all the right notes.
Three words: J'adore Charlize Theron! The statuesque actress and face of Dior is jaw-droppingly stunning and romantic in a blush gown with matching ankle-strap heels by the French brand, mais oui. It's got a plunging neckline and a sexy slit, but this lady manages to pull it off elegantly rather than looking like she's giving away all the goods. What a stunning comeback for this lady, whose last major red carpet awards show was a bust.
Watch out, red carpet, Madonna's dressed for battle tonight. Nothing against the Material Mama's Reem Acra gown. But between the old-school crucifix, the chain metal-style cap sleeves and flap skirt, the singer and W.E. director looks like she's wearing a really chic suit of armor. Or maybe that's what it takes to campaign for the Best Song trophy? Nice work, Madge!
There's something so elegantly understated about Jessica Chastain's belted Givenchy halter gown. The slender silhouette and pop of white against a sea of flashier, more colorful gowns and the tiny white beads that are so subtle you have to really stare to appreciate the effect. It may not be screaming "Notice me!" but this look's got plenty to say in its own special way.
What's black and white and gorgeous all over? Kate Winslet, of course. The British beauty keeps it elegant, as always, in this Jenny Packham gown, with a little bit of sexy thrown in there with the cleavagetastic keyhole detail, along with gold accessories and a pretty, wavy updo. Gotta love seeing this babe's sexy, womanly curves on the red carpet. Way to keep it real, Kate.
Welcome back, Natalie Portman! This is the new mama's first major outing since giving birth last summer. And she's cleaned up nicely in this hot-pink Lanvin gown with red slash at the bust. (Did she and Angelina Jolie trade notes?) And then we caught sight of her bustle... It's a mullet dress! All showbiz in the front and a party in the back. Well played, Natalie!
Salma Hayek is highlighting her best assets in this strapless, femme-bot gown. And while all the metal plating and black sequins could look very cold on some people, the gorgeous star's curves and her soft, bouncy curls keep the Gucci dress looking very warm and sexy. Warp-speed ahead, the future's looking fabulous!
We don't blame Jessica Biel for being in a bridal mood, since the babe just got engaged to boyfriend Justin Timberlake over the holidays. (Congrats, you two!) She's rocking a very prairie-bride look from the front in this long-sleeve lace Elie Saab gown with Platinum jewels, but with a supersexy open back and thigh-high slit. Now all that's missing are Jess' fiance and her engagement ring. Gotta say, we like this look going better than coming. How about you?
If things aren't looking so hot on the red carpet, there's always elegant Helen Mirren to step out and make everything OK. The grand dame of style looks fabulous in her navy blue Badgley Mischka gown with dramatic embellished skirt, sparkly belt, matching clutch, Jimmy Choo heels and Fred Leighton jewels. Show all the starlets out there how it's done, Hels!
