Kata Mara is such a beautiful woman, and we could never understand why every time she hit the red carpet she would use ungodly amounts of gel to slick back her hair. Whether she greased all of her hair back or let some hang free around her shoulders, you could always count on being able to see your reflection on Ms. Mara's shiny head.

To tell you the truth, before we saw this photo, we didn't even know the House of Cards star had gone blonde. All that gel used to darken and camouflage her sun-kissed (okay salon-kissed) blond highlights.

We also adore Ms. Mara's flattering side part (as opposed to that harsh middle part she's been known to flaunt) and that her perfect blowout properly shows off her new highlights.

Get the Look: To copy Kate's stick straight locks, start by spraying hair from mid-shaft to ends with a nourishing heat-styling spray like Oribe Royal Blowout. For extra frizz-control, apply a smoothing, straightening cream or serum like Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry.

Start by drying your hair with your fingers to get out at least 50 percent of the moisture. Clip up your hair in 2-inch sections, and starting with the bottom layer, use a large-barrel round brush and blow dryer with a straightening attachment to dry hair section-by-section from roots to ends.

When hair is completely dry, use a tourmaline ceramic flat iron like Revlon RVTH202 Tourmaline Heat 1" Ionic Nano Ceramic Straightener to ensure you do not burn your beautiful tresses. Starting at the nape of your neck, separate 1" sections and smooth the flat iron down the hair, section by section. Be sure to move the iron quickly and uniformly down the section to prevent damaging your hair. Complete this look by misting hair with a shine or flexible-hold hairspray.

We're not sure if some evil envious hairstylist once told Kate that volume at the roots is the devil, which planted it in her mind that she always had to slick back her hair.  Or, perhaps it's her football royalty background (she is the great-granddaughter to both the founders of the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers) that made her want to always wear a helmet.

Either way, we just care that Kate finally benched the helmet and let her beautiful tresses flow.  Now… if she can just get her sister to stop scowling and wearing black lipstick, our work with the Mara sisters will be complete.
