Jessica Alba's Bow-Covered Couture: Gotta Have It or Make It Stop?

Does this crushed-velvet cocktail dress remind you a little too much of middle school?

We're pretty sure we wore this exact same dress to our middle school's Snow Ball back in '97.

Which makes us think Jessica Alba may have just grabbed this number out of the back of the closet for Carine Roitfeld's Cocktail Party at Hotel Shangri-La in Paris—a venue only slightly fancier than our suburban school gym.

The Sin City star certainly pulls of the ensemble far better than we ever did, in large part thanks to her petite figure and simple accessories. But for us, those velvet bows feel wrong without giant hair and neon pink lipstick.
