Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes and Carmen Electra: Best and Worst of the 2012 American Country Awards

One dress will give you cavities just looking at it

We had yet another country awards show this week. It was in Las Vegas. Between Vegas and a country awards show, you know the dresses are going to be worth our time.

Let's start with our faves, and just in case you've been following us obsessively and think we're getting soft: We still hate fringe. Loathe it. Despise it. Stella McCartney's made a dress out of it that looks like a shower curtain from Fergie's master bathroom.

And yet, Carrie Underwood is wearing a pair of fringey shoes and we love them. Why? They're Brian Atwood. If any other label had tried to design these stompers, they'd end up looking like a pair bronzed mammoth hooves. So, congrats, Carrie—your shoes alone have earned you a place in our winners circle.

And it's a tiny circle. The only other getup that even registered for us in this hoedown was professional red carpet-walker Carmen Electra. Nothing quite says "country" like a model who used to be married to Dave Navarro, but no matter how she snuck in here, she looks great. At first we thought the bodice was a bit busy, with the boob area kind of reminding us of those woven gimp bracelets we used to make at camp.

But then we saw the Worst Dressed.

In theory, LeAnn Rimes's Dolce & Gabbana dress should work fine—nice cut going on in the neckline area, sleek tailoring and great Tom Ford shoes and Loree Rodkin ring. And yet, somehow, the whole effect feels more luncheon than awards show. Then there's Miranda Lambert, who showed up wearing the set from TRON: Legacy.

Natasha Bedingfield looked neither here nor there, though we would have liked to see an updo.

And then came Jewel, all dressed up for Snooki's wedding in David Meister. The color makes our gums spasm. Also: There are sparkles in it. If you're going to wear a color that can give people cavities via remote, at least spare the sugar sprinkles, kid.
