Didn't know that a coat could be a dress and a dress could be a coat, now, did you?

Well, the truth is, that cannot happen—not for mortals like us. Non-royal peasantry such as ourselves must wear either frocks or jackets, or frocks under jackets.

But not if you're royalty. Being the Duchess of Cambridge means you get to rewrite all the fashion rules, right, Kate Middleton?

Check out our 5 reasons for why the London Olympics are a hit (Hint: It involves Queen Elizabeth!).

For the record, the droat is by Scottish designer Christopher Kane. (Just because you can rewrite all the rules doesn't mean you have a ton of designer choices. Kate's a British princess and she's gotta wear, for the most part, UK designers. Poor, deprived dear.)

Mrs. Prince William wore the ice-blue fashion hybrid for two events on Friday—her mother-in-law's reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace, and the Olympics opening ceremony.

No word on whether the garment can also morph into a swimsuit or ball gown. But would that really surprise you?
