Dear Joan:
A really cute guy invited me to the movies. I really like him and I want to look gorgeous, but I have no idea what to wear! Any ideas?
—Desperate Girl

Dear Desperate:

A date with natural mood lighting, just my style! A tulip skirt and off-the-shoulder top would be fresh and sexy, as long as your hem doesn't ride up too high when you sit down. You want to be alluring but not give the show away for free. Something else to keep in mind: You'll be sitting in a theater with the A/C cranked, so jeans, a cami and cropped jacket would be a stylish way to keep the goosebumps away. And the most important thing is to wear something that you feel comfortable in. Have fun!

Dear Joan:
If you wear different color shoes with what you are wearing, does it always look wrong or can it be fashionable?
—monica

Dear Blue Suede Shoes:

You're in luck. Wearing a different color isn't only more fashionable, it's more fun. So go ahead and be daring with red or gold or green. Just stop short of wearing two different colored shoes—not even Helena Bonham Carter can make that work

Dear Joan:
I might just be getting glasses. Does this mean I need to change my wardrobe completely? Should I change my natural look? This is a crisis. I dont want to look like a librarian, just like a young woman.
—k.peace

Dear Glasses Girl:
Crisis, schmisis. Frames are so stylish these days you can buy any shape or color to suit your existing wardrobe and still look great. Unless you secretly want a makeover and then this is an excuse to buy some really funky specs and a bunch of new clothes to match!

Dear Joan:
Love your show! I'm looking for a summer dress that works postbaby. I haven't lost all my lumps yet. Any suggestions?
—cpregulator

Dear Hot Mama:
Thanks, and congratulations on your little one! Cut yourself some slack this summer with a maxidress—they're still in style and very forgiving of any bumps or lumps. Or try a breezy babydoll that cinches just under the chest and then flows out over your waist and hips. No one will ever know you've got something to hide.

Dear Joan:
What colors are the best ones for this season? What print is the best one for this season?
—miranda

 Dear Color Fan:
Nautical stripes in red, white and blue are always going to look good during the summer. So are splashes of tropical color, especially in floral prints that scream summer. Best of all, those strong colors, like purple, green and blue, will carry you through into next season. For more summer style tips, check out George Kotsiopoulos' style guide!
