Forgo the fur and stay snug in a chic shearling this fall.

Designers all over the globe like Burberry, Etro, Celine, Rick Owens and Marc Jacobs have shown fur in their collections. But shearling (or sheepskin) is much lighter, more durable and easier to take care of than a mink or fox fur coat.

And shearling is commonly worn with the fur on the inside—like Anne Hathaway and Ciara are doing—which is great for people who might feel a bit ostentatious in a big ol' fur coat.

Helmut Lang has been doing supple shearling with a deconstructed look that is both modern and classic. There are also great faux alternatives if you either hate fur or its price tag (or both!), like this adorable hoodie from Aqua.

Uggs (which are shearling) are great to wear at home or when you really don't care about your look. So it's great to see designers like McQueen, Cole Haan and Burberry doing the chicest boots with shearling (the Burberry boots on Janet Jackson are beyond chic).

The "Allday" boots at Aldo are pretty cool at a great price, too. And the "Trecker" lace-up shearling boot from Asos is chic at the midprice range.
