For a silent film, The Artist sure is making a lot of noise this awards season.

Fresh off its domination of Sunday's Golden Globes, the film was the most-nominated flick today at the Orange British Academy Film Awards (aka the BAFTAs aka the British Oscars) with a whopping 12 nominations.

U.K.'s homegrown Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was next up with 11 BAFTA nominations, followed by Martin Scorsese's Hugo with nine, My Week With Marilyn with six, and The Help and War Horse, which earned five nominations apiece.

In addition to its Best Film nomination, The Artist also notched Original Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Sound Design (oh, those Brits and their irony) and a handful of technical nods, along with Director, Leading Actor and Leading Actress nods for Michel Hazanavicius, Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo, respectively. (Uggie, however, was snubbed.)

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, meanwhile, just about matched The Artist nod for nod, tallying  Best Film, Outstanding British Film (a lock if ever there was one), Adapted Screenplay, a host of technical noms, and Director and Leading Actor bids for Tomas Alfredson and Gary Oldman.

Rounding out the Best Film category are The Descendants, The Help and the lone surprise, Drive.

See? Not even the British can deny the allure of Ryan Gosling. Er, except when it comes to nominations. While the film's director, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Supporting Actress Carey Mulligan scored nods for their work, Gosling's name wasn't called out.

But George Clooney's was, and The Descendants star is up against a familiar roster: Moneyball's Brad Pitt, Shame's Michael Fassbender (so censors, get ready to bleep that acceptance speech), Dujardin and Oldman.

As for the actresses, Marilyn Monroe channeler extraordinaire Michelle Williams is unsurprisingly up for Leading Actress, alongside Bejo, The Help's Viola Davis, The Iron Lady's Meryl Streep (guess they didn't mind her trampling on their history, after all) and We Need to Talk About Kevin's Tilda Swinton.

The Adventures of Tintin, Arthur Christmas and Rango are the Animated Film nominees. Other notable nominations include War Horse, up for five, Bridesmaids, which scored two nods, one for Original Screenplay for Kristen Wiig and one for Supporting Actress for woman of the hour Melissa McCarthy.

The nominations for the audience-voted Orange Rising Star Awards were already released last week. The winners in all categories will be announced at the Stephen Fry-hosted ceremony, taking place Feb. 12 in London.
