Was haben Coldplay und Lil Wayne gemeinsam? Grammy-Nominierungen, natürlich.

Die Interpreten wurden gleich mehrfach in den Hauptkategorien der 51. Grammy-Awards nominiert.

Coldplay und Lil Wayne ergatterten mit Viva La Vida und Tha Carter III Nominierungen für das “Album des Jahres”. Ebenso nominiert wurden Ne-Yo (Year of the Gentleman) und das musikalische Duo Alison Krauss und Robert Plant (Raising Sand). Radiohead rundeten die Kategorie mit einer Nominierung für In Rainbows ab und sorgten damit möglicherweise für etwas Kopfzerbrechen bei Leuten, die Radiohead und Coldplay miteinander verwechseln.

Lil Wayne führte die Liste der Künstler in acht Kategorien an. Coldplay durfte sich über sieben Nominierungen freuen, während Kanye West, Ne-Yo und Jay-Z jeweils sechs Chancen haben, um mit einer der begehrten Trophäen nach Hause zugehen.

Die Jonas Brothers freuten sich auf ihre erste Nominierung in der Kategorie „Bester Newcomer“.

Joe, Nick und Kevin Jonas werden gegen das britische Sänger/ Songwriter-Duo Adele und Duffy, den aus Philadelphia stammenden R&B-Star Jazmine Sullivan und die Country-Gruppe Lady Antebellum antreten.

In der Kategorie “Song des Jahres” wird Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" mit Coldplays "Viva La Vida", Adeles "Chasing Pavements", M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" und Plant und Krauss' "Please Read the Letter" konkurrieren.

Adeles und Coldplays berühmte Hits aus dem vergangenen Jahr sind außerdem in der Kategorie “Song des Jahres“ nominiert, eine Auszeichnung die Songschreibern zuteil wird. Auch nominiert sind Wests "American Boy", Jason Mrazs "I'm Yours" und Sara Bareilles' "Love Song".

Die Nominierungen wurden zum ersten Mal im Rahmen eines „Nominierungs-Konzerts“ in Los Angeles bekannt gegeben und live ausgestrahlt.

Die 51. Grammy-Awards finden am 8. Februar statt.
