What exactly did Azria look for when casting models? "A confident spark and a great walk," she explained. "There were amazing girls and new faces from all over the world this season."
Everything from what shoes to nail polish a model will wear is plotted out, but Azria rolled with the punches when unexpected surprises popped up. "The unsure moments are the most stressful but they should never affect the process, since this can be the most exciting and inspiring times as well," she shared.
It's takes a lot of work getting a design to the runway! "The design process begins with a sketch, which then translates into a visual idea," BCBGAMAXAZRIA's chief creative officer Lubov Azria explained. "It really depends on my design team on how fast we can turn something around, but one piece can take anywhere from a day to a week at the longest. A couture gown can take up to a month to construct!"
Think the BCBG crew spends months plotting out the makeup looks? Try the day before the show! "The collection needs to be finalized before I can think about hair and makeup," admits the brand's chief creative officer.
"Everyone in our company comes together during our runway seasons to make the show happen and to give thanks to our partners, editors, fans of the brand and customers," Azria told us. "It takes many moving pieces from our amazing public relations, design and production teams.
With the nonstop pace of New York Fashion Week, the BCBG team helped editors and models out by gifting them with "Model Survival Bags," which included such goodies as Uber gift cards and blister treatment kits for all those hours spent in sky-high heels!
Taking a hands-on approach, Azria collaborated with makeup artists, asking them to create "some form of natural, roll-out-of-bed beauty" look for the runway shows.
During final rundowns, both Azria and hubby Max tried to "be prepared for anything" and ensure the shows would "convey a feeling of excitement and newness in the collections."
"Nothing prepares you for the feeling that overcomes your body when the first look walks out on the runway," Lubov exclaimed when asked about her New York Fashion Week highlight.
