Matthew Broderick "Shocked and Saddened" by Ferris Director's Death

Thanks to Matthew Broderick, no one ever had to save Ferris from obscurity. And it was John Hughes who got Broderick to twist and shout into teen-idol history.

The star of the 1986 classic, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which made it even more cool to ditch school than it already was, was just one of many shaken by Hughes' sudden death of a heart attack at age 59.

"I am truly shocked and saddened by the news about my old friend John Hughes," said Broderick. "He was a wonderful, very talented guy and my heart goes out to his family."
