Zach Braff Tries to Scrub Away "Cad" Rep

Zach Braff isn't a jerk, he just plays one on TV. And, less voluntarily, in the tabloids.

The soundtrack-compiling sitcom star has lashed out at increasing reports that he's a playboy, claiming that the string of ladies he's been linked to in the headlines is the result of some overactive imaginations and that his increasingly storied love life is, quite simply, not worth the attention it's been granted.

"I'm not sure when or why the tabloid angle on me was decided that I am a cad," he wrote on a posting to his MySpace blog Monday. "I would have much rather it had been that I am secretly a dentist or that I love soup.

"I am in fact, merely doing what every other single 32 year old man in NYC is doing this summer. I am dating. If you must read that stuff, please don't digest it as fact."

The cad clarification comes in the wake of several reports that have played off the Scrubs star's seemingly unfounded rep.

Last week, the New York Post reported that Braff, who is spending his summer hiatus in New York, was spotted "all over yet another hot young blonde." Reports of favored though ill-fated pick-up lines from the Garden State's repertoire also made the online rounds this month, as did reports that Braff served as the inspiration for several songs off his ex Mandy Moore's new album, Wild Hope.

On one of the tracks, "Looking Forward to Looking Back," Moore sings about a "toxic" Hollywood Hills-dwelling ex-boyfriend who was less than faithful during their relationship, leading bylined fingers to point directly at Braff. Up until now, Braff has kept mum about the inferred accusations.

"It is probably one of the only real sh-tty things one has to get used to when living in the public eye, but I suppose one of the benefits of this blog is that you can hear it directly from me," he wrote. "I haven't had a vacation in 6 years and so I decided to take June and July off. I am having the best summer of my life! I am so happy here!"

"I'm hanging out with my New York friends, my Jersey boys, my family and loving every single second of it. And yes; I am dating."

By way of explanation for his newfound social life, Braff added that for the bulk of the year, while shooting Scrubs, "I spend every waking hour of my life in an abandoned and haunted hospital. All I can date there are ghosts and they tend to be horrible snugglers."

"So anyway, blah, blah, blah. Don't believe the hype."
