YoungBloodz Duo's Bad Rap
Apparently, the crunk stops here.
Two members of the Atlanta hip-hop group Youngbloodz were busted last week by police and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of firearms, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Jeffrey Ray Grisby, whose rap moniker is J-Bo, and Sean Paul Joseph, stage name Sean Paul, were pulled over in their tour bus by highway patrol on I-85 Thursday night in Coweta County while en route to a concert in Columbus.
And talk about doin' it "presidential." According to the patrolman on the scene, what was initially supposed to be a routine traffic stop for an expired Florida license tag turned into the Great Georgia Smokeout of '06.
"When I made contact with the driver, I was immediately hit with the odor of burning marijuana coming out of the vehicle," arresting officer Clinton Reynolds told the newspaper. "I told the driver I smelled marijuana and I called for backup units."
A search of the vehicle turned up approximately half a pound of pot in 11 baggies hidden around the bus in various places, including an iPod box, a vacuum cleaner bag, a wastebasket and a tissue box. Police also found a Glock .40-caliber gun and a Taurus .45 caliber pistol tucked under a mattress.
The Youngbloodz pair were arrested along with their 12-member posse, who face the same charges. They posted bail the following afternoon, according to Reynolds.
Against da grain indeed.
A rep for J-Bo, 29, and Sean Paul, 27, famed for helping found the ATL's Southern Fried crunk movement thanks to such booty-shaking hits as "85 South," "U-Way," "Cadillac Pimping," and "Everybody Know Me," defended the rappers.
"I can confirm rap duo Youngbloodz were arrested last night in Atlanta on possession of marijuana and firearms," Tice Merriweather, senior director of publicity for the group's label, Jive Records, said in a release on Friday. "The guys have never had any trouble with the law. They are completely innocent and they will be exonerated from these charges."
