So You Think You Can Dance Off on Right Foot
Glenn Watson/FOX
Given that Fox just bet on So You Think You Can Dance for the fall, last night would've been a really bad night for the franchise to take a fall.
Luckily for the network, SYTYCD was in good form for its fifth-season opener. Thursday's two-hour premiere averaged 8.8 million viewers, per preliminary Nielsen estimates, up a tick over last year's starter.
Elsewhere on the first night of TV's summer season, Ugly Betty and Southland wrapped up their seasons with belated finales. At 8 p.m., Ugly Betty (6.3 million) got thumped by SYTYCD and outdrawn by an NCIS rerun. At 10 p.m., Southland (6.4 million) likewise lost to a previously viewed CBS crime show (Flashpoint), but rebounded from last week's Grey's Anatomy smackdown.
