Will "Seinfeld" Curse Kill "Chris"?
Jason Alexander may not have much luck when it comes to his own sitcoms, but partner him with an A-list stand-up and he's ratings gold.
At least Chris Rock hopes so.
The erstwhile George Costanza has signed on to guest star in two upcoming episodes of the UPN-turned-CW sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, and will direct a third during the show's second season.
CBS Paramount Television, the series' producer, made the casting announcement Thursday, confirming that the former Seinfeld star will play the principal of Corleone Junior High, the school attended by Rock's decades-younger alter ego.
In the first of Alexander's episodes as Principal Edwards, he makes young Chris (played by Tyler Williams) confront a bully; in his second, the duo bond while waiting out a snowstorm.
The sitcom vet is also set to direct one of the season's episodes, but won't appear on that episode. While Jerry Seinfeld's former sidekick will appear during the first half of the season, official air dates have yet to be announced.
Alexander marks the second major guest casting on the recently Emmy-nominated series.
Last month, the CW announced that Whoopi Goldberg also signed on for a twofer, appearing in a pair of episodes as Louise, a Queens woman who moves next door to Chris' Brooklyn-based family and whose granddaughter catches the eye of the youngster.
The guest stint marks a return to prime-time for Alexander, who was last seen succumbing to the Seinfeld curse on the small screen in the short-lived and critically-lambasted CBS sitcom Listen Up. The series, based on the life of ESPN personality and Washington Post columnist Tony Kornheiser, barely lasted a season, when not even a Cosby kid (costar Malcolm-Jamal Warner) could come to its ratings rescue.
Prior to that, Alexander starred as a motivational speaker in the ABC sitcom Bob Patterson, of which just five episodes made it to air.
Everybody Hates Chris makes its CW premiere on Oct. 1.
