Will D.A. Pull Plug on Sister Wives?

Christine, Meri, Kody, Janelle, Sister Wives TLC

Kody Brown and his three spouses may be one big happy polygamist family—and a ratings machine for TLC—but that doesn't mean their multiple marriages are legal.

Police in Lehi, Utah, have wrapped up their felony bigamy investigation into the Sister Wives clan and have presented their findings to the Utah County Attorney, who will decide whether to file charges that could possibly put the Browns behind bars and end the new reality series.

"We received it on Monday. As for how long it takes to review, it varies. It could take months," Utah County Attorney Jeff Buhman told E! News.

Prosecutors are specifically looking at whether to charge Kody and wives Meri, Janelle and Christine. Their TV costar, Brown's fiancée Robyn, would escape a bigamy rap since they have yet to tie the knot.

Though such bigamy cases rarely if ever end up in court, a conviction could land them up to five years in state prison.

Police felt pressured to investigate because of all the publicity around the Big Love-esque show, which follows the Browns, their 13 children and three stepkids.

"When we decided to do the show, we knew there would be risks," the Browns said in a statement. "But for the sake of our family, and most importantly, our kids, we felt it was a risk worth taking."
