Wife Dumps Lou Diamond Phillips
Another one bites the dust for Lou Diamond Phillips.
The unlucky-in-love star of the 1980s hit biopic La Bamba is undergoing his second marriage bust-up.
His first wife, Julie Cypher, left him in 1990, when she announced she had become a lesbian after meeting and falling for rocker Melissa Etheridge while shooting a music video.
This time, it doesn't appear that another woman is involved. But Kelly Phillips, his wife of 11 years and the mother of his three daughters, has filed for divorce.
Kelly, who tied the knot with the actor in 1994, is seeking joint custody of their children but has requested that the girls, 7-year-old twins and a 5-year-old, live with her, according to a petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The document reveals that the couple separated Jan. 27.
Reps for Lou Diamond Phillips were not immediately available for comment.
But presumably, the 42-year-old actor will drown his sorrows in work. He's currently got three films in production, according to IMDb.com. Next up is The Sweet Science with Mariah Carey, followed by the thriller El Cortez and the military crime drama Murder at the Presidio.
Meanwhile, the actor's first ex-wife is also living life as a singleton. Cypher and Etheridge called it quits in 2000, though they do live next door to one another and share custody of their two children.
