Weiland Tries Rehab Yet Again
The chemically challenged singer skipped out on another court appearance Friday--this time in New York City--because he's once again undergoing rehab, the New York district attorney says.
Weiland, 30, was due in court on heroin charges. The sometime Stone Temple Pilot was arrested June 1 after police caught him with $100 worth of heroin in a Gotham housing project. He was charged with criminal trespassing, heroin possession and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The bust forced the cancellation of his 12 Bar Blues solo tour, his first tour sans STP.
The Manhattan D.A. says the judge actually issued a warrant for Weiland's arrest, but it was suspended because the rocker is in an unnamed drug-treatment center in California.
Reuters quotes his lawyer as saying the singer's undergoing alcohol rehab. "Alcoholism is a lifelong battle. He is in treatment because of the events that brought him to New York and California courts," says Robert Kalina.
It's the second stint in rehab this summer for the STP frontman.
Today marked the third time in two months that Weiland missed a court date. A California judge issued a $250,000 warrant earlier this month for the troubled rocker's arrest.
Weiland was arrested last week in Los Angeles and released on bail--he apparently headed to rehab soon thereafter. He's scheduled to appear in Los Angeles court on separate drug charges August 12.
He's due to face the New York charges November 4.
