Weiland Back to Rehab

Scott Weiland swears he wasn't a Stoned Temple Pilot.

The oft-troubled singer pleaded not guilty Monday to heroin- and cocaine-possession charges stemming from a traffic stop last month. He also told the court he was ready to once again enter rehab to kick his habit.

Cops in Burbank, California, collared Weiland around midnight on May 17, after his car was spotted driving without his headlights on. After pulling the car over, police purportedly noticed drug paraphernalia in the car and then the illicit stash and arrested both Weiland and the driver, Jennifer Lynn Sires. (Sires, 29, has also been charged with drug possession.)

Weiland remains free on $10,000 bail. He's due back in court July 11.

The rehab announcement is a preemptive move on Weiland's part. These latest drug counts are both felonies and, if convicted, Weiland could face some serious jail time, especially considering his less than stellar track record.

Following the huge success of STP's sophomore disc, Purple, Weiland was arrested in 1995 for possession of cocaine and heroin. That run-in with the law not only cost him Pilots position, but it also landed him the first of many stints in rehab.

After going solo with the underwhelming 12 Bar Blues in 1998, Weiland was nabbed by undercover cops in New York City for trying to buy $100 worth of heroin on the Lower East Side. He eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge and was sentenced to another mandatory drug-treatment program and counseling.

Then, a year later, he overdosed on heroin--his third probation violation--and subsequently spent a year in the Los Angeles County Jail.

After serving his time, Weiland reteamed with his STP mates. During a Vegas concert stop in support of the band's 2001 would-be comeback, Shangri-La Dee Da, Weiland was busted again, this time for allegedly hitting wife Mary following an argument over his use of prescription pills. After pleading guilty to domestic battery in a deal worked out with prosecutors, he averted jail time and was sentenced to counseling.

Citing irreconcilable differences, Mary Weiland filed for divorce last fall. The couple have two young children.

No immediate word on whether Weiland's pending legal woes will derail his latest gig fronting Reloaded, a band consisting of several former Guns N' Roses players.

Weiland and the ex-Gunners have an original song, "Set Me Free," on the soon-to-be-released Hulk soundtrack, as well as a cover of Pink Floyd's "Money" on The Italian Job soundtrack. They are also working on album slated for release early next year.
