Private Practice will return to ABC this fall for a sixth season, but the show is losing at least one of its core cast members. Sources confirm to us that Tim Daly (Pete) will not return to Private Practice. And guess what? It seems he's a teensy bit miffed about how he found out.

Taking a page from former CBS star Patrick Wilson (with a bit more subtlety), Daly took to Twitter tonight to let his fans know:

He heard the news through his agent.

Daly tweeted: "Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda [Rhimes] informed my agent today that Pete wont be returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder."

ABC has yet to officially announce how many episodes Private Practice will receive this fall, and the network also has not announced if any other series regulars will be departing.

ABC does not comment on contractual matters.

Daly has been with the Grey's Anatomy spinoff since the pilot episode, initially playing a love interest for Kate Walsh (Addison). In the fifth season finale earlier this month, his character Pete was freed on bail after being sent to jail for assisting in the death of one of his patients.

Will you miss Pete?
