Lucky for you, I've just returned from a getaway at the amazing Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, so I'm in the best of moods and feeling ultra-generous today. I highly recommend Terranea for a relaxing vacation spot, even if you live in the L.A.-area--you feel like you're really getting away. It's great as a romantic hideaway (gorgeous views, great spa and adults-only pool), or a family trip (awesome kids pool, too). Pretty much heaven!
