Who needs drums and guitars when you've got strong pipes?
Not the a cappella specialists on The Sing-Off, that's for sure, especially the group that left the stage tonight with $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.
After another round of infectiously entertaining performances from finalists Pentatonix, Urban Method and the Dartmouth Aires—plus the inevitable 98 Degrees duet with Nick Lachey—and after Ben Folds had turned the place into "an a cappella freak show," the winner was announced.
Which group was America's favorite?
The more isn't always the merrier!
The five-strong Pentatonix (makes sense, right?) topped the 16 dapper gents from the Dartmouth Aires to win the third season of The Sing-Off tonight.
"I don't even know what to say, I can't believe it," said an emotional Scott Hoying, Pentatonix's standout male lead. "I'm just so humbled to share the stage with my best friends. They're my family. These were 16 amazing groups, I can't believe this has happened."
The eight talented guys and gals of Urban Method fell shy of the top two and, while they got a standing ovation for their "rap-appella" efforts, must have been pretty disappointed.
"We leave the stage tonight humbled and grateful, and so thankful for our many supporters and our many fans," offered frequent group spokesman Mykal Hudson.
So that's that for now. But to ease the a cappella withdrawal, A Sing-Off Christmas airs next Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
