Is the body count on Ringer about to increase?!

One of the CW drama's leading men Nestor Carbonell, who plays FBI agent Victor Machado, has just landed a gig on ABC's Smart One, a comedy pilot starring Portia de Rossi and Malin Ackerman as sisters. Yes, Lost's Richard Alpert is trying his hand at funny business, y'all!

So who is Carbonell playing? And what does this casting news mean for Ringer's future?

Fret not, Ringer fans: Carbonell joining Smart One does not mean Ringer is as dead as Siobhan's BFF Gemma (RIP).

Carbonell's Smart One gig is in second position to Ringer; if Ringer is renewed, ABC will be forced to recast his role in the pilot. The CW has yet to make a decision on Ringer's fate and we're hearing all three of the network's freshman shows, including The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie, have a 50-50 chance. Still, the CW drama, which attracts less than 2 million viewers per episode, isn't afraid to kill off its characters, so we're thinking prayer circles for Machado might be in order.

Our friends over at TVLine first reported the news of Carbonell's casting and highlight the fact that Carbonell is being billed as a guest star in the pilot, but the role could potentially be bumped up to series regular.

In the comedy from Ellen DeGeneres and Samantha Who? cocreator Donald Todd, Carbonell will play Jude's (de Rossi) ex who is a wealthy real estate developer. The duo is said to have a Moonlight-type relationship.
