NBC Renews Law & Order: SVU, Picks Up Chicago Fire

Dick Wolf's procedural is going into its 14th season while his pilot starring Vampire Diaries actor Taylor Kinney was picked up to series

NBC has renewed long-running procedural Law & Order: SVU for a 14th season and picked up drama pilot Chicago Fire to series. We're pretty sure Dick Wolf, who created the Law & Order franchise and is producing Chicago Fire, is feeling pretty darn good about himself right about now.

Fret not, Det. Olivia Benson fans! Hargitay signed a deal last month to continue with the long-running procedural. Phew!

Chicago Fire is an action drama about the heroic men and women of the Chicago Fire Department. Starring in the project are Vampire Diaries star Taylor Kinney, who will play adrenaline junkie Squad Lt. Kelly Severide; Eamonn Walker, who runs the team; and House's Jesse Spencer. 

NBC has jumped on the pilot pickup game early: On the drama side, Chicago Fire joins Eric Kripke and J.J. Abrams' Revolution, set in a world where all energy sources have mysteriously disappeared, as well as Hannibal; while Ryan Murphy's gay family comedy The New Normal, 1600 Penn, Save Me, Go On and Animal Politics have all been given the green light on the comedy side.

NBC will announce its full lineup next Monday during its upfront presentation.
