Grey's Anatomy Creator Shonda Rhimes Calls Out Bunheads for Lack of Diversity

Private Practice showrunner ranted about the ABC Family show having only one black dancer in the premiere

Shonda Rhimes, the master of the dramatic season finale, is stirring up some real-life drama for herself.

The Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice creator took to Twitter on Monday night after the premiere of ABC Family's ballet series Bunheads to voice her displeasure about the lack of diversity in the cast...

"Hey @abcfbunheads: really? You couldn't cast even ONE young dancer of color so I could feel good about my kid watching this show? NOT ONE?" Rhimes tweeted.

Shortly after, one Twitter follower shot back at the Scandal showrunner, saying she doesn't feel bad having her white kids watch black performers, to which Rhimes responded, "I def don't feel bad when my kid watches white performers. Not at all what I'm saying."

Then yet another follower pointed out there was an African-American dancer in the group in the premiere episode (without any lines), and she was happy that Bunheads had girls with different body shapes. Rhimes agreed, saying, "I did love seeing girls of all shapes and sizes. That was great. Am a huge Gilmore Girls fan. Just pointing out one issue... "

ABC Family and Bunheads creator Amy Sherman-Palladino have no comment on Shonda's tweets.

Bunheads is not the first show to get fire for cast diversity hits year. HBO's Girls has repeatedly been criticized for its all-white cast.
