Any reason to use a shirtless photo of Alexander Skarsgård, right?

HBO announced today that True Blood has officially been picked up for a fifth season. In other related news that no one is shocked over, Ryan Kwanten is attractive...

Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming, says in a statement: "I am thrilled that True Blood continues to enjoy a phenomenal reception from both subscribers and critics. [Creator] Alan Ball and his gifted team have devised the greatest thrill ride on TV."

Ball himself says in the same statement that he remains "amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm" of T.B. fans. "I can't imagine having more fun than this." At Comic-Con, Ball and the cast revealed some season five scoop, like we will be flashing back to when Eric made Pam (Kristin Bauer). And then Ball gave us this little tease: "For those who read the books, you know that fairies are born in litters and are identical."

The fifth season order is for 12 episodes. The fourth season of True Blood is currently airing on HBO (get our recaps!), with the season finale set for Sept. 11.
