Viewers Make "Tracks" Back to American Idol
Michael Becker / FOX
So, apparently the country's just down on country music, not American Idol.
One week after a down-home Idol bled millions of fans from the previous performance show, a Motown-celebrating Idol returned the franchise to its former strength and scored 25.6 million viewers, per preliminary Nielsen estimates.
From the show's first half-hour to second half-hour, when the all-clear on country music was sounded, viewership jumped by nearly 4 million, and kept going up from there.
Elsewhere:
• Lost (8.8 million) wonders why Adam Lambert's "Tracks of My Tears" had to be so freakishly compelling. Down week or no, the fiery cult show managed a second-place finish in the 18-49 demo at 9 p.m., ahead of Criminal Minds (14 million), the night's most-watched scripted series.
• Scrubs (5.3 million) kinda kept pace; Better Off Ted (4.7 million) not so much. A Survivor: Tocantins clip show (8.2 million) beat them both.
• America's Next Top Model (2.8 million) was down about 1 million from last week.
• Life (4.3 million) has enough problems without airing after the lowest of low NBC series, Chopping Block (2.6 million).
