Tyra's Next "Top Model" Recruits
Tyra Banks has enlisted a fresh crop of fashionista wannabes to take part in her model boot camp.
On Thursday, UPN revealed the new cast of Banks' runaway runway hit, America's Next Top Model. The show, now in its third season, will debut Sept. 22.
The latest group of pretty faces hail from 11 different states and range in age from 19 to 25. Most are students, but several have branched out into the working world, including Kelle, 20, the owner of an online art gallery, and Nicole, 21, who lists her occupation as former punk rocker.
For the show's duration, the would-be models share a loft in New York City, while they learn all-important skills such as strutting the catwalk and striking a pose. They'll be subjected to rigorous challenges like onscreen Brazilian bikini waxes and naked girl-on-girl photo shoots.
Should they fail to complete their mission, they'll face the greatest peril of all: elimination and the wrath of Janice Dickinson, Top Model's answer to American Idol's Simon Cowell.
Past seasons of America's Next Top Model have earned huge ratings for UPN, due in part to Banks' ability to craft together a volatile cast of hotties, ensuring that plenty of drama ensues.
(It's possible that Banks' penchant for submitting her chosen ones to televised nude photo shoots--tastefully pixilated, of course--is an added draw for viewers.)
Season two of Top Model reached such steamy levels that Banks was forced to step in and make some edits to ensure that the show continued to meet UPN's family-friendly standards. Notably snipped: a much-touted "orgy scene," which supposedly featured "eight people making out at the same time kind of in the same vicinity," according to Banks.
So far, the show has launched the careers of at least two aspiring models.
Last season's winner, onetime babysitter Yoanna House, earned a modeling contract from IMG Models, a spread in Jane magazine and a Sephora advertising campaign.
The show's first winner, former waitress Adrianne Curry, scored representation with Wilhemina Models, a contract with Revlon and a spread in Marie Claire magazine.
