Tyra's "Next Model" Wannabes
The underappreciated pretty faces of America have once again flocked to Tyra Banks in hopes of deliverance from their average lives.
The identities of Banks' latest crew of disciples for the fourth season of America's Next Top Model were announced Monday by UPN.
The model wannabes selected range in age from 18 to 25 and hail from hometowns reaching from Maui to Miami. Five of them work in restaurants, one is a former flight attendant and several are students.
Gone is the token plus-size contestant from seasons past--these wannabes conform to waifish model standards, despite professing their adoration for foods such as pizza, chili cheese fries and Taco Bell.
This season, the aspiring catwalkers have their claws out for a $100,000 CoverGirl contract, a fashion spread in Elle magazine and the opportunity to be managed by Ford Models.
For the winning contestant, the ends justify the means--the cramped living quarters, the televised nude photo shoots, the scathing criticisms at the hands of Janice Dickinson--it's all worth it for the chance to become a Top Model.
For the other contestants, the show presents a whole lot of public humiliation for a scant 15 minutes of fame.
So far, Banks' boot camp has minted the careers of at least three aspiring models: season three's Eva Pigford, season two's Yoanna House and season one's Adrianne Curry.
Now, 14 more camera-friendly hopefuls are ready to strut, pose and get fierce in the hopes of becoming the fourth winner of America's Next Top Model. The upcoming season premieres on Mar. 2.
