Tucker Seeks to Restrain Ex
Tanya Tucker's love life is playing out like a country song.
The hitmaking Nashville diva has filed an order of protection against Jerry Laseter, her onetime fiancé and father of her 5-year old daughter, Layla. Tucker she claims Laseter has choked her, given her a black eye and threatened and harassed her, among other things.
While Laseter denies the allegations, police have been out to the Tucker compound in Franklin, Tennessee, nine times over the past year, five of which have been domestic disturbance calls, according to records at the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.
To hear Tucker tell it, the relationship has been anything but harmonious.
In a written statement, Tucker said things hit rock bottom on Jan. 29, when Laseter poured "ice cold water on me and started yelling at me." She said that he proceeded to poke her in the chest and grabbed her by the throat.
At the time, police were called to the scene and found Tucker locked in the bathroom. But she didn't press charges then.
Also taking a swing at Laseter is Tucker's personal assistant, Roberta Ann Carroll. According to the Nashville Tennessean, Carroll also filed for an order of protection, claiming Laseter punched her in the eye, pulled her hair and threatened to kill her.
Tucker and Laseter had been engaged for several years but never made it down the aisle. He was previously arrested in 1999 for domestic abuse, but the couple patched things up and Tucker declined to press charges.
Tucker, who has nine number one singles and an additional 29 top 10 singles, famously dated Glen Campbell (during which time she got hooked on booze and cocaine, prompting an eventual stint in the Betty Ford Center) and a pre-Miami Vice Don Johnson before hooking up with Laseter.
A hearing on new allegations is scheduled for Apr. 1.
