We know she can act, but how good is Angelina Jolie behind the camera?

We're about to find out.

The trailer for In the Land of Blood and Honey, a Bosnian War drama that marks the Oscar-winning actress' first stint above the title as writer and director, premiered online today.

Jolie doesn't appear in Blood and Honey the film, which is the love story of a Serbian man and a Bosnian-Muslim woman during the mid-'90s conflict. But it's clearly also a passion project for the thesp, given her humanitarian work on behalf of war refugees and victims of atrocities.

Alas, given the sensitive nature of the tale—which early reports incorrectly described as being about a rape victim who falls for her attacker, sparking outrage—Bosnian officials initially denied Jolie a permit to shoot in the country. However, they later reversed course after the Mighty Heart star asked local women's groups not to judge the movie before they see it.

In the Land of Blood and Honey is set to unspool on Dec. 23, just in time to qualify for the Oscars.
