Tracy Morgan Gets Ankle Relief, Avoids the Joint
Tracy Morgan is getting with the program.
The court-ordered alcohol-monitoring program the actor must undergo for violating his probation on a DUI charge, that is.
Thanks to his arrest for drunken driving last November in New York, Morgan will be forced to wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring ankle bracelet for 90 days, Los Angeles City Attorney's Office spokesman Frank Mateljan confirmed to E! Online.
In February, Morgan was fined $1,000 and had his license suspended for six months after pleading guilty to his NYC driving infraction—but the 30 Rock star also ended up in hot water in L.A. because he was already on probation from a similar bust in December 2005.
Hence the new accessory.
The SCRAM anklet will test Morgan's skin for alcohol vapors every 30 minutes for 90 days. If he tests positive for booze once, he gets ankle-bound for another 90 days. If he messes up twice, he gets 30 days in county jail.
The former Saturday Night Live player is due in court May 25 to be fitted for his new bling.
He also has to complete five days of community service as part of his punishment.
Morgan received three years' probation and was ordered to attend alcohol-awareness classes following his 2005 arrest on DUI charges, when he was pulled over in L.A. for speeding and, according to police, blew a 0.13 on a Breathalyzer test. (The state legal limit is 0.08.)
For the November bust, Morgan copped a plea with New York prosecutors that will allow the charge to be cleared from his record if he completes a doctor-supervised alcohol program, does community service and stays out of the cops' clutches until at least August.
