Tommy Lee's 911 Tapes
Authorities in Los Angeles have released a seven-minute tape of a frantic 911 phone call made by the rocker, who was desperately trying to save the life of a four-year-old boy who drowned in Lee's backyard pool during a weekend birthday party.
"There's a big pool party here and no one was paying attention for a minute," Lee tells the 911 operator, after requesting an ambulance.
When the dispatcher tried to ascertain whether the boy was breathing, the former Mötley Crüe drummer replied, "He's not breathing. He's throwing up--but he's not breathing."
Then Lee a moment later: "He's not responding. He's just...he's just laying there."
Daniel Karven Veres, a guest at the bash and the son of television producer James Veres and actress Ursula Karven, was found floating face down in the shallow end of the pool Saturday during a birthday party for Brandon Lee, the 5-year-old son of the rocker and his ex-wife, Pamela Anderson.
The 911 operator told Lee to turn the boy over on his left side. But when the boy failed to respond, the operator began coaching the Methods of Mayhem founder on how to administer CPR, which he then relayed to the adult partygoers trying to resuscitate the boy.
Lee grew agitated on the tape. "Everybody's pressing on him," he said. "There's a bunch of [expletive] people here all, you know, doing their thing so I don't know what the [expletive] to do, okay."
Paramedics arrived a short time later at Lee's Malibu estate, but Veres was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital. According to the preliminary autopsy, the boy died by asphyxiation caused by accidental drowning.
In a statement released Tuesday, the couple (who weren't at the party) said: "Our family has been devastated...We have turned this matter over to our attorneys to handle, and we will have no further comment this time."
Lee's publicist released a short statement Monday saying "this is a tragic accident. Tommy Lee is devastated and has no comment."
