Tom Green Gets a Leg Up

Let's see, what part of Tom Green aren't we intimately acquainted with yet?

The man who brought us a play-by-play recap of his surgery to treat testicular cancer in 2000 is going back under the knife Thursday and bringing us along for the ride. Only now, thanks to the Internet, we can see the whole thing.

Green is having metal screws inserted into his lower leg after a skateboarding accident last week left him with a shattered tibia. And he's going to videotape the entire procedure and show it on TomGreen.com during his nightly online talk show, Tom Green Live. (Well, technically, Green will be under general anesthesia, so someone will be taping the surgery.)

"I didn't really think of it until people started calling and saying that, since I broke my leg, I might as well film it," Green told E! Online. "People need to know what the inside of my leg looks like."

The former MTV show host and recent Tonight Show correspondent launched his latest venture June 15 in collaboration with ManiaTV.com. In addition to a blog and other personal news, TomGreen.com basically features archived video clips and a constantly running feed of Green's call-in show--which he conducts from his Hollywood Hills living room--and footage from his various man-on-the-street exploits.

Clips of the skateboarding incident, for instance, are available to watch online because the practically always-rolling cameras were at the scene, recording Green's stunt so that it could be aired on his show later. What Green refers to as the "big blue button" enables visitors to his site to keep a pop-up screen of his show running on their computers while they visit other Websites.

While a lot of Tom Green Live features the Road Trip player kibitzing with callers and engaging random guests in random conversation, celebs such as Brooke Shields, Jamie Kennedy, Andy Dick and Jackass' Steve-O have been known to stop by for a chat, as well.

So, when he bit the dust skateboarding the other day, did Green consider it a golden opportunity to advance the cause of Internet talk show hosts everywhere? Or at least give himself a literal leg up on the competition?

"I'm kind of mad at myself, actually," the Ontario, Canada, native said. "I was trying to be more careful." Earlier this year Green suffered a few broken ribs in Costa Rica when a wave knocked him into some rocks while he was fishing. Just in case you were wondering, it wasn't caught on tape.

But you can catch doctors repairing Tom's tibia Monday at 11 p.m. Eastern on TomGreen.com or ManiaTV.com.
