Tom DeLonge's Rocket Boy
Tom DeLonge is rocking fatherhood.
The former Blink-182 singer-guitarist and his wife Jennifer welcomed their second child Wednesday, son Jonas Rocket, the rocker's publicist confirms.
The newborn tyke was delivered at a Los Angeles-area hospital at 5:03 p.m., tipping the scales at seven pounds, three ounces and topping out at 20 and 1/2 inches.
According to DeLonge's rep, the bouncing boy earned his unusual--though maybe not comparatively--middle name thanks to his big sis, who began referring to her unborn sibling as Rocket after finding out her mama was expecting.
It's the second child and first son for the couple, who welcomed daughter Ava Elizabeth on July 15, 2002.
The twosome first met while attending high school in San Diego, though they didn't strike up a romantic relationship until 1996. They tied the knot in 2001 in front of friends and family, including then-bandmates Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus.
In early 2005, among rumors of inner-group strife, the Blink boys announced they were going on "indefinite hiatus." Shortly after, DeLonge announced the formation of his new band, Angels & Airwaves, promptly declaring them the harbingers of "the greatest rock and roll revolution" ever.
While they have yet to make good on that claim, their debut album, We Don't Need to Whisper, did make it up to number four on the Billboard charts.
DeLonge's wife, Jennifer, meanwhile, launched a line of high-end kids' furniture in January, which has already found a Hollywood following in kindred celeb parents Courteney Cox and Gwyneth Paltrow.
DeLonge's happy stork news comes in the wake of family turmoil for his former partner in rock, Travis Barker. The Blink drummer filed for divorce from his wife of less than two years, Shanna Moakler, and the split proceedings are already shaping up to be less than amicable.
Shortly after the announcement, Moakler took to MySpace, declaring she still loved her soon-to-be ex and that she was "heartbroken" over her marriage's demise. Barker fired back a week later in a scathing entry detailing a typical day in his estranged wife's responsibility-eschewing life, calling into question not only her abilities as a faithful wife but as a good mother.
As for two-time papa DeLonge, all's well in his home life.
"She's always had such a desire to create and use her amazing mind," he told People of his wife's ambitions. "That's part of the attraction."
Perhaps her reciprocal attraction stems in part from the fact that Angels & Airwaves is up for three MTV Video Music Awards, including Best New Artist, Aug. 31.
