Tom Births a Drew Pregnancy Rumor
Just when the burning question was finally answered over whether Tom Green and Drew Barrymore were married (that's still "yes," for the record), the goateed former MTV funnyguy sparked more rumor-mongering Wednesday when he told Tonight Show host Jay Leno that his new bride is preggers.
In an appearance promoting his new gross-out flick Freddy Got Fingered, Green told Leno that Barrymore--who went to the show's taping with him--whispered the baby news to him right before he walked onstage.
Suckers. Once again, the tale is reportedly untrue. Barrymore's reps could not immediately be reached for comment, but the Canadian jokester released a statement to Entertainment Tonight Thursday saying he was joking, and he thought everyone realized it.
"People always think I'm kidding about stuff," he said. "Jay and I were joking around and I thought the audience was in on it. We are not pregnant now, but do hope to be blessed with children in the future."
Green, of course, doesn't have a sterling reputation for being straightforward. (Witness previous claims that he tied the knot with Barrymore in Cleveland, and that his new film, Freddy Got Fingered, is a comedy. Critics are vehemently denying that one, instead calling it "an act of violence against moviegoers.")
In any case, his comments Wednesday again unleashed frenzied speculation over whether the gross-out goofball was pulling everyone's finger. After announcing their engagement last July, Barrymore, 25, and Green, 29, kept everyone guessing for nearly a year. The twosome often confirmed and denied wedding tales, even staging a stunt wedding on Saturday Night Live that featured Barrymore getting cold feet and backing out.
Green, Barrymore and their publicists finally got their stories straight earlier this month, when they confirmed that the pair tied the knot in a private ceremony out of the country.
If the baby story ever does prove true, let's just pray Green doesn't assist in the delivery. In his new film, Green delivers a baby, swings the newborn by its umbilical cord, and then cuts the cord with his teeth.
But, um, we're sure he'll make a wonderful father.
In other screwball Canadian skate-punk news, a man who sued Green after he appeared during a stunt on MTV's Tom Green Show has settled his case, according to Inside.com.
Jeffrey Spector, who appeared in a sketch called "Lucille, Loose Wheel," filed suit for invasion of privacy last May after he was shown reacting to Green as the comedian fumbled around downtown Los Angeles in a broken wheelchair. Spector claimed he never gave permission for Green to use his image.
Details of the settlement were not disclosed.
