Looks like the mysterious world traveling will have to be left in the hands of Carmen Sandiego. Matt Lauer is staying put.
The Today show's annual "Where in the World Is Matt Lauer?" week has been put on hold for 2009. The popular segment typically sends the host to exotic sites such as the pyramids or Taj Mahal and viewers have to guess his location based on clues.
This year, however, the trip was given the kibosh due to the failing economy. Executive producer Jim Bell says they asked fans to send in destination suggestions and a majority expressed that, in tough financial times, they felt the extravagant travel sent the wrong message.
Instead, the NBC morning show will spend a week in May hitting up more affordable vacation spots throughout the United States.
