Toby Keith Sweeps ACM Awards

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino wasn't the only performer having a good night on Wednesday.

Just a state away from Los Angeles' Kodak Theater, Toby Keith was victorious four times over at the Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Reba McEntire and held at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas.

Keith, often overlooked by the Academy of Country Music, mopped up the competition this year, capturing the awards for Entertainer of the Year, Best Male Vocalist, Best Album for Shock'n Y'all and Best Video for "Beer for My Horses" with Willie Nelson.

"I always kept hoping this night would come," Keith said, accepting the highest honor of the night. "Thank God for blessing us. Let's all go partyin' and rock out here in Vegas."

(Um, don't you mean country out, Toby?)

Other winners included Brooks & Dunn, who scored the award for Best Vocal Duo, adding to their record 17 Academy of Country Music Awards.

Randy Travis was a surprise winner for Song of the Year with "Three Wooden Crosses," which had been considered a longshot in the category.

"It's been quite awhile since I've been nominated for anything," Travis said.

Martina McBride, the lone female winner of the night, took home the award for Best Female Vocalist, as well as the Humanitarian Award over her competition Brad Paisley and Charlie Daniels.

"I don't really see this as a competition," McBride said. "I know that Brad and Charlie work just as hard as I do or harder. It's a responsibility and a privilege to get to use our celebrity, if that's what you want to call it, to make the world a better place."

For the first time, fans were allowed to vote for the winner of both the Humanitarian Award and Best Video. The other nine trophies were meted out by the 3,000 members of the Academy of Country Music.
