Timberlake Takes Tinseltown
Justin Timberlake is getting ready to rock his body on the big screen.
The popster--a headlines fixture of late, due to his role in the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction, as well as his recent acquisition of a pair of Grammys--has signed to star in the upcoming indie film Edison.
The movie will also feature veteran thesps Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey.
Timberlake will play a young journalist who uncovers a specialized unit of crooked cops. After he realizes he's in too deep, he forms a tentative alliance with a burned-out reporter (Freeman) and a district attorney's crackerjack investigator (Spacey).
To prepare for the role, Timberlake will shadow a journalist, according to MTV. The mentor's identity will be kept confidential, so as not to interfere with actual reporting duties at hand.
David Burke of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will rack up his first feature writing and directing credits on the movie.
Edison is budgeted at $25 million and scheduled to begin production in Vancouver on March 8.
The 'N Syncer's acting chops were first noticed during his recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, which earned him surprisingly positive reviews. He also cohosted the 2003 MTV Movie Awards alongside Seann William Scott.
Last Sunday, Timberlake took home the Grammys for Best Male Pop Performance for "Cry Me a River," and Best Pop Vocal Album for his solo debut, Justified.
In his acceptance speech, he apologized again for his role in Boobgate. CBS confirmed that they required the apology in order to allow the popster to participate in the ceremony.
(Janet Jackson reportedly turned down the network's request for a further apology, choosing to steer clear of the night's events.)
In addition to his upcoming debut as an actor, Timberlake reportedly has plans to record a second solo album, as well as to head back to the studio with his 'N Syncmates later this year.
