Three 6 Mafia Keep It Real
It may be hard out there for a pimp, but for a group of Oscar-winning rappers, life's not too bad.
Three 6 Mafia, who earlier this year delivered one of the most exuberant acceptance speeches in Academy Award history upon nabbing the Best Song prize for "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" from Hustle & Flow, has signed on to star in a reality series for MTV.
Though they may want to hold off on penning any Emmy acceptance speeches just yet.
The show, dubbed Adventures in Hollyhood, is described by the music net as a comedy reality series, meaning viewers who tune in will presumably be laughing with the rappers, not at them (sorry, Newlyweds).
MTV has given the go-ahead for eight half-hour episodes, each of which will chronicle the daily goings-on of the group's two main emcees, Juicy J and DJ Paul, as they attempt to parlay their Oscar win into lasting Hollywood fame.
The hip-hopsters will relocate, entourage and all, from their Memphis home base to Los Angeles over the course of the show and try their best to become Tinseltown players.
They're already off to a banner start.
Earlier this week, the group had a cameo on the series premiere of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip as the musical guest on the show-within-a-show.
Unfortunately, not all the group's press has been positive.
Two weeks ago, Three 6 Mafia filed for a dismissal of a lawsuit filed by a concert-goer claiming he was severely beaten at a 2003 gig in Pittsburgh when rambunctious fans abided by the lyrics of the group's song "Let's Start a Riot."
The rappers filed the motion to dismiss last week, claiming there was no "genuine issue of material fact" in the 22-year-old man's complaint.
Adventures in Hollyhood is being exec produced by Ashton Kutcher's Katalyst Films and is set to premiere on MTV early next year.
