Theron Off After Movie Mishap
Charlize Theron is back on solid ground in Los Angeles after suffering a trampoline injury on the German set of her new sci-fi action movie.
Theron, 29, hurt her neck while performing a stunt on the springy apparatus, publicist Amanda Silverman confirmed Thursday.
The mishap occurred Monday while Theron was making like the high-kicking titular heroine of Aeon Flux, a rep for Paramount Pictures confirmed to E!
"Charlize sustained an injury--it's a very physically demanding role," the film's unit publicist said Tuesday. "She's doing well, and she wants to come back and finish the film, and all signs indicate that will happen, but the time frame is still being determined. It's up to the doctors at this point."
Silverman noted that that Theron had not required hospitalization.
But shooting on the film has been halted indefinitely while Theron rehabs in L.A. in the care of a neck specialist.
Aeon Flux, based on the 1995 MTV animated series of the same name, began filming in Berlin earlier this month. It is Theron's first major project since claiming the Best Actress Oscar for Monster at February's Academy Awards.
Theron is the second incumbent Best Actress winner in two years to be hauled off to sick bay shortly an Oscar triumph. In 2002, fresh off her Best Actress win, Halle Berry suffered an eye injury on the set of the James Bond adventure, Die Another Day.
Theron, who gained weight and wore prosthetic makeup to play Monster's real-life serial killer Aileen Wournos, has faded her blonde hair to black to play futuristic spy Aeon Flux.
The actress told Sci Fi Wire this month that she was drawn to the role, and others like it, because it "keeps me on my toes," adding she didn't want to "become lazy and just kind of do the easy stuff."
Aeon Flux would not qualify as "easy stuff"--not from a physical standpoint, anyway.
Theron was said to have trained four hours a day for three months to get to the point where she could flip around like a cartoon character.
Aeon Flux, the first studio film from Girlfight helmer Karyn Kusama, is due out next year. Frances McDormand and Angelina Jolie's ex-husband Jonny Lee Miller costar.
Theron will next be seen as Swedish bombshell Britt Ekland in the HBO biopic, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, scheduled to premiere in December.
