Robert Downey Jr. will not give up on Mel Gibson.

Remember, the Iron Man star was adamant about getting Gibson a cameo in his pal Todd Phillips' The Hangover Part II, but thanks in part to Zach Galifianakis & Co. that ended up not happening.

So what's RDJ doing now for his longtime pal? Well the two were spotted having a "power" lunch yesterday...

A source confirms that Gibson and Downey did lunch together along with one other gentleman in Irvine, Calif., at an In-N-Out Burger.

That's quite the random location for these friends to be meeting. So were they dining for business or pleasure?

"The outing was a mix of both," our source confirms, adding it was "just a friendly lunch between friends."

We have a sneaking suspicion the topic of conversation leaned more toward business as Downey has been dedicated to getting Mel back in Hollywood's good graces no matter what it takes.

Wonder why he's not as determined to help Charlie Sheen? Oh yeah, because Sheen doesn't need it!

But are you all ready to give Mel Gibson what seems like a fifth chance?

Apparently his flick The Beaver debuted to a solid audience reception at SXSW last week, but we're not so convinced.
