Our feelings about Miss California—hell, the whole damn state in general–have been abundantly clear here in this blolumn. But how do the other beauty queens feel about Miss Cali's rise to fame (and impressive infamy)?
We spoke to Miss Washington Tara Turnure, a total doll from Seattle, who competed alongside Carrie for the winning crown, and the beauty babe had a lot more vitriol for Donald Trump's behavior than for Prejean's:
What do you personally think of Carrie?
I really enjoyed getting to know Carrie at Miss USA. I think she is a sweetheart, and I knew she would be a tough competitor.
Do you think Donald Trump was fair in letting Carrie Prejean keep her crown?
I am happy she was able to keep her title, simply because I know how hard we all work to even be able to compete at Miss USA. However…
...I think in terms of setting a precedent for the future of the pageant, it's too bad Mr. Trump doesn't have higher standards for the contestants. I think having seminude photos of contestants all over the Internet takes away from the positive message that the organization is try to send to young women.
Do you think it's better for a Miss USA to try and appease everybody? Or say how she feels, even if it means alienating people?
As Miss USA, it is your job to be able to state your opinions about prevalent issues without offending people and to do your best to be politically correct. No matter what your opinion is on [gay marriage], inevitably either way when you pick a side you will offend someone. I respect her for being honest and stating her opinion—answering an onstage question in front of millions of people is a lot harder than it looks.
What characteristics should the perfect Miss USA have?
In my opinion, I think Miss USA should be a savvy, goal-oriented and a classy role model!
Thanks, Tara!
Now tell us, folks—you think Carrie entirely fits that description? We sure don't—at least not the "classy" part. Good thing she wasn't crowned Miss USA, a fortunate fact that seems lost on everybody in this blitzkrieg of BS right now.
We keep forgetting we're dealing with a gal who wasn't even the damn first runner-up—hey, at least Adam Lambert came in second in his televised competish!
