Teen Mom Détente: Amber Portwood, Baby Daddy Allowed Face Time, Talk Marriage

Amber Portwood MTV

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood and alleged punching bag baby daddy Gary Shirley are once again free to scream at each other in person after an Indiana judge today modified a no contact order keeping the two apart.

The hotheaded duo both turned up in state court this morning for the hearing, where they each gave their side to the judge.

However, there is one rule that will cover their future reunions...

Judge David Happe is permitting Portwood and Shirley to have contact with the caveat that their 2-year-old daughter, Leah, is not around when they do, a court official tells E! News

The only exception to the rule is when one of them comes to pick up the child for a visit.

"I never wanted this in the first place," Shirley told the judge. He said the two planned "to take things slow" and held out hope for their future. "The end goal," he said, "is to go for marriage."

Amber's brother, Shawn Portwood, was in court today to lend his support and told us that his sister is happy with the change.

"I don't agree with the part about not being able to have Leah around, but Amber said the judge just wants to make sure everything is OK between them before they can have Leah around them both," he explained. "They are both happy that they can finally see each other and they're going to keep working on their relationship together. They are very happy but of course they won't be fully happy until Leah is part of the equation again."

Amber, 20, and Gary, 22, took advantage of their modified ruling right away, celebrating after the hearing with Portwood's mom, Tonya, at Frisch's Big Boy restaurant.

All the trouble started for Portwood after she was filmed on the MTV show last October clocking Shirley in a violent outburst. She surrendered to Indiana police and was booked on felony charges domestic battery and neglect.

She's facing up to three years in jail and a $10,000 fine if convicted on all charges and is due back in court in May to enter a plea in the case.
