Talent Agency Sues Snipes
While Wesley Snipes was busy protecting mankind, he may have forgotten to pay a few bills.
United Talent Agency sued the Blade star for more than $2 million Monday, alleging that Snipes failed to pay the full commissions he owes the company for securing him parts in the third Blade movie and in three other films.
Per the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Snipes had an oral agreement with UTA (that he is now in breach of) to fork over 10 percent of his earnings from those four roles, the most lucrative being his third turn as Blade, the vampire-human hybrid whose lonely mission it is to save the world from the undead.
UTA charges that Snipes collected $13 million for Blade: Trinity and has only paid the agency $716,690 of the $1.3 million the two parties agreed upon.
David Schiff, Martin Bowen, Josh Pollack and April Lim are the agents who, according to court documents, negotiated Snipes' deals for his most recent foray into vampirism as well as for the crime thrillers Chaos, Middle Man (formerly Hard Luck) and The Shooter--for which Snipes was paid $2 million, $4 million and $5 million, respectively.
The actor also got a $100,000 bonus after filming on Chaos was completed.
None of these films except Blade: Trinity has seen a release date yet, however, and the third Blade film only picked up $52.4 million domestically. UTA also said that Snipes cut ties with the agency Feb. 22, just days after the deal for The Shooter was hammered out.
UTA stated that Snipes did make good on the 10 percent he owed from his $2 million Chaos role, but that he hasn't yet ponied up the $10,000 cut from his $100,000 bonus. And then the 44-year-old actor also owes the agency $400,000 from Middle Man, $500,000 from The Shooter and $583,309.10 from Blade: Trinity.
According to the Internet Movie Database, Snipes has no less than eight projects currently in pre- or postproduction, each one some type of action film.
