Streisand Tix Nixed

People who need people are in luck. People who need tickets might be screwed.

A host of Barbra Streisand fans will not be singing a happy tune Tuesday in light of Ticketmaster's announcement that more than a thousand tickets for Streisand shows in Atlantic City, New York, Las Vegas and several other venues were purchased using stolen credit card numbers from the company's Website, and therefore are no longer valid.

The ticket peddler said that all Streisand tickets found to have been purchased with bogus info have been invalidated, leaving those who purchased any of the tickets in question through Internet resale sites without a way of getting in to see the Funny Girl's latest farewell tour.

"Fans who have purchased or who are considering purchasing Barbra Streisand tickets on those sites are not guaranteed admittance to the venue," Babs' manager, Martin Erlichman, said in a statement. "The 'buyers beware' adage applies here more than ever."

Potential concertgoers can check to see if they actually bought useless pieces of paper by going to www.Ticketmaster.com/BarbraStreisand and checking out the voided confirmation and seat numbers posted online. The company is encouraging defrauded ticket holders to seek refunds from the site of purchase or contact the appropriate law enforcement in their area.

"It is a serious violation of the law to try to buy concert tickets using stolen credit card information and, when successful, to resell those tickets to unknowing consumer victims through resale Websites," Ticketmaster president and chief operating officer Sean Moriarty said. "With the Streisand tour the unusually high number of incidents of fraud has prompted us to issue this specific warning."

Streisand, who's right up there with Cher when it comes to farewell concerts, announced earlier this year that she would tour again in support of the myriad humanitarian causes she supports. Her 26 concert dates in 1994 raked in more than $10.25 million for charity ($1,500 tickets will do that), with more than $3 million going to several AIDS organizations, according to the "actress who sings'" Website.

The "Evergreen" performer's latest 17-stop jaunt around the U.S., featuring classical boyband Il Divo, kicks off Oct. 4 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, unless you're sitting in Section CB 14, Row 4, Seats 12-15.
